Roberto Mancini has said that Manchester City will not be making any moves for other strikers. City have a number of strikers in their books. Some of them are on loan – Emmanuel Adebayor, while some of them are being extremely troublesome – Carlos Tevez. Only Edin Dzeko, Sergio Aguero, and Mario Balotelli form the cream of strikers Manchester City have at the moment. This is certainly not the squad Roberto Mancini seems to be aiming given the wealth he has at his disposal. However, the Italian has ruled out making any moves for the likes of Cavani or Lavezzi in January, although it looks extremely possible that Carlos Tevez will be leaving City in January.
It would leave Manchester City with a thin strike force. Emmanuel Adebayor also is keen to make his loan move to Tottenham permanent. Even though the wealth of options he may have at the moment seem enticing, that have been situations in the campaign so far where there has been a need for a different striker. City are thought to have been closely monitoring the situation of Cavani or Lavezzi. Hence, it has been rumoured that they will be making a mega money bid for these two players.
However, Roberto Mancini has been quick to quell the rumours by saying that Manchester City are satisfied with their current crop of strikers. He said, “We also have three or four players who can play like a second striker. I think Cavani and Lavezzi are strong players. But they play for Napoli at this moment. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future.”
Cavani and Lavezzi have been extremely good in the two matches they have played against Manchester City in the group stages of the Champions League. Napoli beat Manchester city 2-1 in the crucial group stage encounter recently.
